The Photographer
John Vargas, a native of California, is a retired information technology professional who has a passion for photography and now devotes much of his time to practicing the art of photography. Redmond, Washington is where he currently lives, and he loves everything that the Pacific Northwest has to offer! Outdoor photography is something he enjoys, particularly photography of landscapes, nature, and travel.
Artist Statement
A long time ago I had aspirations of being a commercial photographer, but that never happened. Instead, I enjoyed a long career in information technology and project management, and I am grateful that I was finally able to retire. Now, I am able to devote my time to pursuing my lifelong passion for photography. I became interested in photography at a young age, and as time went on, I developed a deeper appreciation for the art of photography. One of the things that intrigued me about photography was being able to capture and freeze a scene of a special moment or a beautiful vista and being able to share it with others.
One of my favorite photographic experiences was when I met Ansel Adams at a photography lecture he gave in San Diego in the early 1970s. A lot of the breathtaking pictures that he displayed on the screen are still fresh in my memory, and he also shared insights about how and why he photographed a scene. I will always remember that event, which motivated me to learn more about nature and landscape photography.
To me, photography is an art form that allows me to share the visual beauty of the world with others and express my creativity. The process of taking photos and creating the final image is something that brings me great satisfaction. My goal is to create the best possible photographic work. Through my photography, I hope to portray my feelings and experiences while capturing the spirit of the scene.
I have had the opportunity to use a number of Canon and Nikon cameras and lenses over the years. I am currently using a Nikon mirrorless camera system to capture my photographs and process them in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Adobe Portfolio was used to create my website.
